SUN 26 MARCH 06
FRY CLUB COLTS 1
ST ALDHELMS 4
St Aldhelms were top on the division and had won every
previous league game, but having played so well against them away, we felt we
had a very good chance of beating them.
An even
start created few opportunities for either side. St Aldhelms
had the advantage of the wind but both Michael Payne and James Hurrell Smith were playing well enough to stop their
forwards. However, a direct free kick opened the scoring for St Aldhelms and the second from a corner put them in control
up to half time.
A
positive talk at half time and the wind in our favour gave a good start to the
second half. However, with the rain now pouring, the conditions led to their
third goal with the ball just slipping over the line. A good response was
needed and Brad Monelle from a direct free kick
powered the ball into the roof of the net to bring us back into the game.
Captain Oli Randall was playing very well but it just
wasn’t to be our day as a scrappy 4th goal was conceded to secure
the win for St Aldhelms.
A game in which we could have played better. Disappointing but we still have 3 very important games to play and can still finish runners up, providing we win all 3 games.
Man of
the match this week was awarded to Michael Payne who returned to the centre of
defence and played very well.
